We believe that each child created by God is unique and has purpose.
We further believe that each child should be provided a safe growing place with activities and expectations that match and challenge their cognitive, physical, emotional and spiritual abilities.
Our staff occupy the unique role of professional teacher-parents, who not only play a dual role with the children, but act in cooperating, supporting, and educating roles with the parents.
Our purpose is to provide a quality preschool program to our children, regardless of race, color, creed or religion, in a warm, loving, spiritual, Christian environment.
Philosophy
Milpitas Discoveryland Preschool is unique in that we do not subscribe to just one philosophy for teaching. We believe that each child is unique and their differences should be considered during the learning process. Our school provides a variety of methods and opportunities for our littlest friends to explore, make connections between concepts, develop independence and gain confidence in their abilities. Our program is a well-balanced blend between academic, emergent, developmental and play-based philosophies in order to focus on the growth of the whole child. With more than 100 years of cumulative classroom teaching experience, our teachers are focused on the learning process as it relates to the student as individuals. Discoveryland has an extremely low turnover rate for our beloved staff and our teachers have been a part of our school family anywhere from three years to over twenty! This speaks to the high caliber of education we offer and the importance of our school’s focus on community. We stand by the service that our school offers combined with our smaller class sizes, which helps to foster a great connection between our teachers and parents.
Our class size and teacher ratios vary by student ages. For 2 years and under, the average class size is 12 - 14 with a teacher ratio of 1:7. The class for 3 year olds has an average size of 16 with a teacher ratio of 1:12. For the 4 year olds, or pre-kindergarten students, the class size can be up to 24 with a teacher ratio of 1:12. We believe that the ratio we offer allows our teachers to do accurate assessments of our student’s areas of growth along with being able to note possible concerns for each child.
As a Christian school, we remain focused on Christian values and have worked these core character values into our curriculum. Along with our daily worship and Bible classes, we currently offer a weekly, non-denominational chapel program that uses Biblical stories to enhance these ideals. Our students learn about honesty, friendship, thankfulness, joy, and cooperation.
